It is difficult to rate or rank all the various castles we have visited. Each one has something that makes it special -- the tallest tower, the oldest ruins, interesting art, the best restoration, the history or legends, the gardens, the countryside etc..Some are remembered more fondly because of the people we went with and the memories we made during our excursions. That being said, Rock of Cashel is definitely one of the more impressive places in Ireland as it hit several of the categories listed.
